American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card

  • Annual fee waived for the first year
  • Earn one point per dollar spent
  • Transfer points to 11 frequent flyer programs

Get access to the world-class American Express Rewards program and a host of other cardholder benefits with the American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card. In this post, we'll explain the basics of the card and tell you how it fares against the competition.

The Rewards Program

The American Express Rewards program is often recognized as one of the best in the industry. As an American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card cardholder, you will have access to this program for no additional fee. With the rewards program, you will earn one point for every dollar you spend. You will also earn 5,000 bonus points after your first purchase. These points are then redeemable for a $50 gift card. You can redeem your points for a variety of rewards and can transfer points to 11 frequently flyer programs at the rate of one mile per point. You can earn an unlimited number of points, and your points will never expire.

Additional Card Information

Though this card does come with a relatively high annual fee of $95, the fee is waived for the first year for the basic card and up to five additional cards. If you plan to take advantage of the rewards program, the card is well worth the annual fee. As an American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card cardholder, you will also enjoy access to a variety of cardholder benefits and services. Such services include auto rental insurance, up to $100,000 in travel accident insurance, merchant discounts, and various purchase protection services. You will also have access to the Global Assist Plus Hotline, which can provide you with a wealth of services when you are traveling more than 100 miles away from home. Thus, if you can afford to pay your balance in full each month and plan to take advantage of the rewards program, the American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card is an excellent choice.
