Credit Card Blog - Citi Dividend Platinum Select Credit Card for College Students Now Available

 Thursday, December 28, 2006

Citibank has announced the re-launch of the Citi Dividend Platinum Select Credit Card for College Students; this credit card is one of the few student cards offered by Citi that has a cash rebate program available. This credit card was one of the top three preferred student credit cards available to Your Credit Network users in the past, so the return of this offer is exciting news for college students seeking a cash rebate credit card.

What are the Benefits of the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select Card for College Students?

Some of the benefits of this student credit card include:

  • 2% cash back rewards on housing & related expenses, such as rent/lease, grocery store, gas, convenience/drug store, and utilities
  • 1% cash back on all other charges
  • $5 bonus for every balance transfer in excess of $1500
  • Cash rebates are issued to cardholder in increments of $50 dollars or more
  • 0% introductory APR on all transactions

The 0% introductory rate is a very rare offer for college students, which is why this particular credit card offer is so popular. It should be noted that this Citi credit card is not ideal for students who frequently get cash advances as there is a relatively higher expense for doing so compared to other Citibank cards.

How Does this Credit Card Compare?

Citibank also offers the Citi Platinum Select Credit Card for College Students, which is somewhat different from the Dividend Platinum Select Credit Card. Both of these credit cards offer the platinum-level benefits that are associated with Citi’s exceptional customer service programs, but the key difference is the cash rebate program offered by one and the lower interest rate offered by the other. Students who expect to carry balances should apply for the credit card with the lower interest rate in order to minimize their monthly interest expense, whereas students who are able to pay off their balance in full every month would benefit from the rewards program offered by the Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card.
